Technical Writer Contract

A services contract between Northwind Studio and Acme Co covering documentation, developer guides, and product content.

Parties and Engagement

This agreement is entered into by Northwind Studio (the "Writer") and Acme Co (the "Client") for the technical writing services described below. Replace the sample details with the specifics of the product, audience, and documentation site before signing.

Recitals

The Client wishes to engage the Writer to produce technical documentation that helps its users install, integrate, and get value from the Client's product. The Writer has the domain experience, editorial standards, and toolchain fluency to deliver that content on the schedule agreed below. This contract supersedes any prior verbal or written understanding on the same subject.

Scope and Deliverables

Work runs across three phases. Each closes with published or merged content and an editorial review before the next begins.

What is included

• Documentation audit and prioritized content map
• Original writing, editing, and code sample validation
• Two rounds of revisions per article based on Client and SME feedback
• Style guide and glossary maintained across the engagement
• Handover package with maintenance checklist for the Client's team

Not included: illustration or diagram design, translation into additional languages, video scripting, and documentation site tooling changes. New scope can be added in writing at any time.

Fees and IP

The engagement is a fixed-fee project billed against the three phases. Additional articles are quoted at the per-article rate below.

Payment Schedule

Intellectual Property

On full payment, all documentation produced under this contract is assigned to the Client for publication and reuse. The Writer retains the right to reference the engagement in a portfolio using anonymized excerpts unless the Client requests otherwise in writing.

Acceptance

To start the engagement, complete the fields below and sign. Access to the docs repository is provided on the confirmed start date.
